Privacy Policy

Bluestar Professional Services Inc. (“Bluestar,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) recognizes the importance of keeping your personal information secure and confidential. As a professional services organization that includes licensed legal, accounting, consulting, and wealth management entities, we have a heightened duty to protect any personal information we receive in the course of client engagements. Our relationships are founded on trust and confidence, and we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality over the personal information we collect.

Since January 1, 2004, Canadian businesses must comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). These standards apply to professional service firms, including Bluestar. PIPEDA grants you rights to protect your personal information.

The purpose of this Privacy Policy (“Policy”) is to explain our responsibilities under PIPEDA and to provide transparency regarding our practices in the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information.

Why does Bluestar need your information?

Bluestar provides professional services to a wide range of clients. We collect personal information for the following limited purposes:

  • To identify and verify you in accordance with applicable professional or regulatory requirements;

  • To understand your legal, financial, or business needs and objectives;

  • To administer client accounting;

  • To update your contact information and maintain client records;

  • To represent and advise you as our client; and/or

  • To provide materials concerning our services, third-party services, and developments relevant to your engagement.

If you no longer wish to receive information about our services, third-party offerings, or new developments, we will promptly remove you from our communications list upon request.

What personal information do we collect?

Personal information includes any information about an identifiable individual. This may include details such as age, identification numbers, income, credit or banking information, employee or medical records, and any other data relevant to the services we provide.

By choosing Bluestar, you have placed your trust in us. We are honoured by this trust and take pride in representing and advising you. We restrict the collection of personal information to what is necessary to identify you, to deliver or coordinate services related to your matter, and to communicate updates and materials as described in this Policy.

How do we collect personal information?

We collect personal information at the start of our engagement and as required on a continual basis. Most information is collected directly from you; however, we may also collect information from other authorized sources to serve you efficiently. Examples include financial institutions, insurance companies, real estate agents, government registries, accountants, experts, or other parties to a transaction, matter, or dispute.

Consent

PIPEDA allows Bluestar to collect, use, and disclose information related to your engagement.

In most cases, we will seek your consent if we collect, use, or disclose personal information for purposes beyond those reasonably required to provide our services. Consent may be implied through your conduct with us, or may be provided expressly—in writing, electronically, verbally, or through an authorized representative. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Bluestar will not disclose your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes without your consent. However, we may disclose information under limited circumstances, such as:

  • When required or authorized by law (e.g., a court order or subpoena);

  • When necessary to establish or collect fees;

  • When you have expressly consented to a disclosure;

  • When the nature of our engagement reasonably requires disclosure (e.g., to a lender, accountant, or mediator), unless you have notified us otherwise;

  • When a third-party service provider performs administrative services (e.g., IT backup, payroll, or data hosting) under contractual confidentiality obligations;

  • When we engage expert witnesses or consultants on your behalf;

  • When the information is publicly available; or

  • For other purposes permitted or required by law or professional rules of conduct.

Securing your personal information

Bluestar takes extensive precautions to ensure that your personal information is kept safe from loss, unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure. Measures include:

  • Secure physical premises and restricted office access;

  • File access controls;

  • Firewalls, encryption, and security software; and

  • Internal passwords, security policies, and staff confidentiality agreements.

Accuracy of personal information

We are committed to maintaining accurate and up-to-date information. If your personal details change, please inform us promptly so we can update our records.
